Village of the Damned

The 1960 movie Village of the Damned was based on the 1957 science fiction novel The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham.

Midwich is a small sleepy English village where nothing ever happens until the Dayout.

All inhabitants of the village are unconscious for a day. This seems to have no side effects until all women of child-bearing age in the village are pregnant at the same time. There is a great deal of worry about what the Children will be like but at first all that is different about them is their eyes.

Later the Children's differences become more apparent and a special school is built for them. Violence breaks out between the Children and the other villagers as it becomes apparent they cannot live peacefully together.

" Village of the Damned is the definitive scary-kid classic, a truly unsettling film drawn from John Wyndham's novel The Midwich Cuckoos. The brilliant opening sequence depicts the sudden and temporary paralysis of a small English hamlet, which is followed by the town's women becoming mysteriously pregnant. The spawn of this occurrence are a dozen eerie, blond-headed children, who are either gifted, evil, or 'the world's new people.' Robert Horton Amazon.com.
